Distant Cousins #2 • Nina Wise & Sten Rudstrom • Friday • 6 May

an empty room.
Sten Rudstrøm and Nina Wise enter the stage.
they don’t know what is about to happen.
from out of the emptiness they craft a landscape—
at the intersection of imagination, life experience and the present,
an unpredictable, unique journey through human nature. . .

Action Theater meets Motion Theater! Sten Rudstrøm and Nina Wise, both highly accomplished improvisers, meet together for the 2nd time as part of Sten’s on-going Duets Project.

Nina, founder and developer of Motion Theater, is internationally renowned for her spontaneous performances that address the most relevant issues of our time. Described as a blend of Lily Tomlin, the Dalai Lama, and Jules Feiffer she is known for her quirky humor, her wisdom, and her startling physicality.

Sten Rudstrøm’s solo improvisations have been described as having a bottled and shaken intensity. With his savage humor he binds together the scary, scandalous and romantic in provocative and intriguing ways. The panorama of characters, bare-bones honesty and rawness, lets us see the feelings of foolishness, fear or confusion in our lives and lifts the viewers up to get a better view of themselves, their relationships with people and the environment around them. He has worked extensively with Ruth Zaporah, founder and developer of Action Theater™.

STEN RUDSTRØM has been working in the field of improvisation for the last 25 years. He teaches and performs internationally, founded the improvisation group EAT. In 1986, he met Ruth Zaporah and has continued to work with Action Theater™ since that time. He currently has a 4 year old son and is re-learning how to improvise and let go of outcomes. www.stenrudstrom.com

NINA WISE has given solo performances and taught Motion Theatre in prestigious venues in the U.S., South America, Europe and Asia. She’s won awards for playwriting, innovative design and new theater, including three NEA fellowships and seven Bay Area Theater Critics’ Circle Awards. After having many shorter writings appear in magazines and anthologies, Nina wrote “A Big New Free Happy Unusual Life” (Broadway Books) to give people who aren’t able to take a Motion workshop a way to move their stories out and live freer happier lives. www.ninawise.com
